Title: LAT Mon. 4/2 Jeff Chen
Post by: magus on April 02, 2012, 08:26:15 AM
Possible Title: LOL

Some Nits to Pick:
The covert theme is likely to be missed by all but those expecting to find a theme and search for it.  Why LOL could not be clued in the grid I’m not sure, but April Fools Day was yesterday. Or perhaps Jeff is laughing at those who don’t see it.  If so, the laugh may be on him: cleverness is lost on those who don’t know where or when to look for it.  For the cognoscenti, though, I suppose it’s fine.  [I don't know why the LAT does not, except on Sunday, use a title, which in this case would obviate the problem.]

Boat’s bottom   HULL [Actually the hull is the shell of the boat including the freeboard, which may be quite high.  As I recall my Chapman’s, the heel of the boat is its bottom.]

ESO is not in our lexicon, but “Eso Beso” is.

With all of this carping and nothing "good" to say, I appreciated the 4 long entries and some of the cluing.
RATING:   ;D Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
