Title: LAT Sat. 7/11 John Farmer
Post by: magus on July 11, 2009, 09:26:30 AM
Today's puzzle sought to be more difficult than clever, and in that it succeeded; I prefer the latter.  There were, however, two good ones:
"Sign of possession"    APOSTROPHE [sign may suggest omen]
"Family tree"    TOTEMPOLE

As far as I know, which may not be too far, oeno- means wine, not cellar.  John sought to make the clue more difficult by using "cellar" to mean "wine cellar," and since wine is stored in cellars, oeno- is in fact a "Cellar prefix."  By that logic, though, TELE could be "Room prefix" since televisions are placed in TV rooms.  Possible, I guess.
