Possible Title: “R” You There?
Theme: initial “R” sound substituted for by “W" sound, a la Elmer Fudd
Good Ones:
Toon who inspired {theme} ELMER [also the last entry as a kind of summary]
About 98 degrees F.? WOMBTEMPERATURE
Jack Daniel's field? WHISKEYBUSINESS [it was also George Washington's]
Part of a plot ACRE
Online qualifier IMHO [I thought passwords, etc.]
Target of a series of guides IDIOT [as in Crosswords for Idiots]
Something to keep a watch on WRIST [works best if you don’t notice “a” --- which I didn’t]
Land at Charles deGaulle Airport? TERRE
Piece of cake TIER [as in a wedding cake]
By the Way:
Disinterested ALOOF [disinterested = impartial; uninterested = not involved or caring --- aloof. Anyway, that distinction seems no longer to exist. It’s like healthful = promoting good health; healthy = of good health.
I read Chapman’s Piloting closely but don’t recall "sea mile" substituted for "nautical mile."
RATING: ;D ;D ;D Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
