Theme: apologies from apt speakers

Good Ones:
Proud liberal’s apology…or is it?   IDIDNOTHINGRIGHT [all theme entries were excellent but I liked this the best]
L.A. Times section?   LOS
Smashing target   ATOM [especially good if you’re a Brit]
Ball girls   DEBS [not tennis aides]
111 digits   ONES
Prevent littering?   SPAY
Start to foam?   STYRO
Muscular jerks   SPASMS [love this one, perhaps said by those with poor physiques]

Who knew?:
Indian cattle is ZEBU; and crossed with PREZ, which could have been PRES, the cattle could have been SEBU, or XEBU.  Had to guess on this one.

Some Nits to Pick:
ESOS

BTW and IMHO: This is the most enjoyable puzzle in a long time and will be among the best of the year.

RATING:   ;D ;D ;D Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
