Title: Appropriate Difficulty for a Tuesday Clue
Post by: robgonsalves on September 13, 2018, 10:16:11 AM
Hello,

I am looking to clue VOWEL for a Tuesday puzzle. I thought it would be fun to use the use of the letter Y in the word "sync". Something like this, [Y is one in sync].

Is this too tough for a Tuesday?

Cute clue. I'd let the editor worry about whether it's good for the placement. They change a lot of clues anyway.

Working with my construction partner, Jennifer, we changed it to [Y is one in syzygy].

I’ll report back when I see what the editor did with the clue.

Reporting back...

The editor, David Steinberg, modified our clue for VOWEL to [Y is the only one in "syzygy"]. Makes sense. It was published yesterday in The Puzzle Society Crossword.
