Only 27 black squares. One was all by its lil' self in the center and the others were connected in pairs diagonally. Today we have ENERO---again!---and four brand names which used to be taboo in crosswords: ATRA, CANON, DCON and POSTITNOTE. "Leveret's dad" was HARE. Okay, now I had to look in the dictionary and find out what the heck a "leveret" is. It's "a hare in its first year." Now I'm wondering why the word even exists. Why not just call a hare in its first year a "hare"?
"Reason for overtime" was NOSCORE. Technically, if a game goes into overtime because neither team scored during regulation play, there is a score: zero to zero. Every baseball season, I yell at the announcers when they say there's "no score." The score is zero to zero. Of course they can't hear me...but yelling makes me feel better.

Oddly, no scoring yields a score.
