BTW:

"Oh, I give up!" FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE [another Forties term, this time contrasted with the modern OMG and TMI]
There seemed to be more than the usual "switching the parts of speech" ploy. For example: Guard = SENTRY, not the verb which comes to mind first; Platoon reporter = EMBED, not often used as a noun. Even "Test in a small room" for TRY ON is tricky that way.
