Post by: magus on January 17, 2014, 09:27:30 AM
THEME:   phrases with PE removed still make sense

GOOD ONES:
Slangy denial {& theme}   NOPE [that is, "no PE"]
Franken and Yankocic, for example?   (PE)ALS OF LAUGHTER
Silver-tongued speaker?   SMOOTH O(PE)RATOR
"Sorry, the mayo has been put on in advance"   IT CAN'T BE HEL(PE)D
Union in D.C., e.g.   STA (Union Station on the Metro)
Abe or Dick   PREZ [Honest Abe and "The Crook"  --- but I had PRES]
Some kids   GOATS
Buck tail?   AROO [not the deer]

BTW:
A dispersive one is commonly triangular   PRISM [better would be "pyramidal" since it's 3D]

Where Yankee Doodle's feather ended up   IN HIS HAT [I thought it was "cap"]

NLER is never used in print or speech --- only in Xwords

RATING:    ;D ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
