Title: Thu., 12/19 Guizzo & Chen
Post by: magus on December 19, 2013, 08:21:47 AM
THEME:   first word of a phrase is porcine

GOOD ONES:
Obstinate {& theme}   PIG HEADED [PIG "heads" the phrase]
Fourth grade?   DEE
Creepy thing   VINE
Dumb ending?   SILENT B

BTW:
Informed   CUED IN [I thought the idiom was "clued in"; didn't know it was a stage term.]

Bart Simpson catchphrase   AY CARAMBA [Why are there more references to The Simpsons in the LAT puzzles than to Shakespeare.  I get that the iconoclastic cartoon is a pop culture touchstone, but think of all the great writers, poets, musicians, and leaders of Western culture who go ignored while we get a steady diet of Homer, not the poet, et al.  Of course, we did get IBSEN today but only because the B and S are together.  (If IBSEN were a cartoon character, we'd never see Master Builder, which, frankly, was a bore.)  And if we need TV references, what about M*A*S*H, Bilko, The Honeymooners, Barney Miller, Frasier?  If movies, why mainly Star Trek and Star Wars?]

RATING:    ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
