Post by: magus on July 26, 2013, 10:05:52 AM
THEME:   the meaning of a two-word phrase is changed by a reversal of the letters I and T [it]

GOOD ONES:
Recover from a set back {& theme}   TURN-IT-AROUND [literally]
Conditions of kids' shoes...?   UNTIED-STATES
Low clouds on an East Asian island?   TAIWAN-STRATI
Cheer competitor   ERA [detergent]

BTW:
John le Carre writes spy novels, not what Edgars are for.  I doubt he ever won an Edgar.

I liked the theme & the challenge
RATING:  ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun

Hi, Marti ---

Was the error mine or was it printed in the newspaper incorrectly?  If mine, I apologize to you, a first-rate constructor, and to George Shayler whose work I don't know.
