Title: Mon., 7/15 MaryEllen Uthlaut
Post by: magus on July 15, 2013, 09:13:36 AM
THEME:   first words of phrases can involve RINGS

GOOD ONES:
Things associated with {theme}   RINGS

BTW
Today may be a good time to push for Mon. & Tue. puzzles to offer more than this potentially good offering denuded of everything of interest but its theme.  Neophytes will not be thrown by a few good entries, nor will speedsters.

For example, instead of the prosaic "Relative by marriage" for IN-LAW, why not go with "Old rocker 'Mother-___'"?

Or for FANG, instead of "Venom dispenser," go with "Phyllis Diller's husband."
Too hard?  Instead of "Breakfast staple" for EGG, maybe "Good or bad type" or "'What came first' alternative."

I'll bet MaryEllen had much better clues than she found in her published work, and it must be disappointing for her as well as for us.
