Aug 16 2010     Database updated
Administrivia

Hello,

For those of you who access the cru database, just wanted to let you know that it has been updated recently. NYT, LAT and CS are all up to August, 2010. And new word lists (the "nyt" and "all" lists) have been recreated and therefore have many new answers. Thanks, once again, to Mark Diehl for helping with this effort.

Gold members, here are the word lists: http://www.cruciverb.com/data.php?op=wordlists

For anyone wishing to become a gold member, here are some links:

Thanks to all gold members who have donated and have helped keep this resource available.

Also, I do have a bit more time on my hands lately and plan to add some new features to the database. Stay tuned!

EventsFrom Nancy Shack:

There will be a crossword puzzle tournament in Pittsburgh on Aug 7,
with puzzles provided by Will Shortz.  Proceeds go to the Western
Pennsylvania/West Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Here's an interesting article that's mostly about Dr. Frank Colangelo,
who is a participant in the ACPT, and his daughter Rachel, who is
organizing the tournament.

Congratulations
It was a very good week for Patrick Blindauer, folks. We saw his puzzles here:
And to top it off, his birthday was Sunday! Congratulations and Happy Birthday, Patrick!
AnnouncementsAuthor John Papini recently completed a book, A Crossword Primer, which is currently being edited for self-publication. This book is a how-to book aimed at the neophyte or wanna-be crossword puzzle solver, wherein he discusses a basic methodology for solving along with numerous hints and facts about the history of crossword puzzles in our country.

He would like to include crossword puzzles as exercises in the back of the book. He's willing to pay one or more crossword constructors for their puzzles, if used. He requires a dozen 15x15s ($125) and two or three 21x21s ($450). For the 15x15s he would like NYT Wednesday degree of difficulty, with themes stated. and themed NYT Sunday difficulty for the 21x21s.

UPDATE: John is no longer accepting puzzles. He has selected all the ones he needs. The book will contain puzzles from: Fred Piscop, Kelly Clark, Tim Darling, Alan Olschwang, Nathan Miller, and Randall J. Hartman.
